Alyson Bowers
(2009)
Welcome now, to the blog, Ms. Alyson Bowers! (There was another third interview, but unfortunately the recording wasn’t clear enough. Ashley’s moment of fame… will have to wait.) Alyson, meanwhile, is 25 years old and comes from a small suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah. She lives in Yangsan, just outside of Busan, and teaches middle school (making her unique amongst my subjects thus far, as the rest teach elementary school). She’s been here for almost 13 months now and has just begun her second (and final?) teaching contract. Alyson and I haven’t known each other very long but we have something of a special bond – We were roommates for the better part of three weeks, during this past summer, and we definitely have a… spiritual connection… in that we are spiritual people who like… or love… to talk about our respective paths and all this entails. And we agree that “spiritual” people are tricky to come by here in Korea, making the experience all the more challenging.
We talked in Seomyeon, Busan in a cozy little coffee and waffle shop called Illusions. It was a chilly, breezy Saturday night in November. I broke the chat into two parts. Part I runs about 30 minutes; Part II runs 25. THRILL! at the chance to hear ME answer some questions in part II (because I don’t do enough talking as it is), as well as rue, briefly, my lack of direction in life. This is getting exciting…

Alyson and I- we're very close.
